Clinical Supervision

Offered by Kristen Hamilton-Block, MA RCC-ACS and Liz Hagerty, MSW RSW.

Whether you are a seasoned therapist, a new grad or a student needing additional support, we all need to consult and make sure we are on the right track! Clinical Supervision is offered by Kristen Hamilton-Block, an Approved Clinical Supervisor with the BC Association of Clinical Counselling, as well as Liz Hagerty, a Registered Social Worker who sees clients and supervisees, as well as teaches in the Bachelor of Social Work program at Douglas College.

Our supervision style is relational, developmental and experiential. Building rapport with our supervisees, just as with her clients, is of utmost importance. Kristen’s approach is informed by the theories she most closely uses in her practice, which are person-centred therapy, AEDP, EMDR and EFT. Liz’s approach is more aligned with CBT, DBT and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy.

We strive to tailor the supervision process to the unique needs of each supervisee. Each supervisee brings their own unique experiences, knowledge and skills to the process and as such, will require different things from supervision. We seek to make supervision a collaborative process that is dynamic and fluid. There are a number of tools that may be used in supervision to help supervisees explore their own process. These tools are used to explore the person of the therapist and how we show up in the room for our clients. These may include genograms, attachment styles and enneagram types. How structured supervision sessions are is determined by the supervisee’s level of knowledge and unique learning style. Where appropriate, personal reactions to clients’ processes, as well as the supervision process, are explored. When personal reactions are strong, we may encourage the supervisee to explore this in more depth with their own personal therapist.

For Clinical Supervision, a 15 minute phone consultation is required in order to determine if it is a good fit between Supervisor and Supervisee.
